Chloey : Class of 2025

I have been living vicariously through Chloey’s swimming experiences as relayed to me by her step-mom, Deanne. It seems as though I just photographed her youngest brother’s newborn photos, but turns out, that was a whopping NINE years ago! WHAT?! So, color me shocked when Deanne contacted me to photograph Chloey’s senior photos. How are we already here?

Chloey was a champ - much like she is in the water - throughout our session together as we dodged raindrops and the thunder was our soundtrack. We started our session going off the deep-end as I say when we start with a student’s sport. It’s usually harder posing with props, in athletic attire and getting compositions juuuuust right on their field, court or, in this case, the pool deck. While Indianola’s Wellness Center has floor to ceiling windows, the storm clouds outside blocked all available light. So, let’s add in the challenge of some off-camera flash, shall we? :)

Chloey’s name takes up half the space on the record boards for a couple of age groups. So I wanted to give a nod to that by having it become her backdrop while standing in the stands where so many have cheered her on. Not only that, but, logically, she’s a lifeguard, so we had fun with the guard chair as well.

Studying the path of the storms on radar, we went a little out of our original order and headed to Lake Aquahbi to get ahead of the rain. We had to move really quickly because the glow was going to go away shortly as the storm clouds approached but Chloey took it in stride and had already scoped out where she wanted to go. Because she had pre visualized and planned things out, we could maximize our time and move efficiently.

Once she stepped into the lake, the raindrops started to fall. This green dress was such a gorgeous color on her and we had about 10 minutes in it total, but I know she’ll get more use out of it throughout all the senior events she has coming up. You can see the raindrops falling in those green dress photos but it just helps tell the story and adds texture to everything!

We jumped back up into Indianola as the storm headed south and when we arrived at the town square, the rain stopped - it had dumped on the square while we were in Aquahbi. It kind of felt like we had outsmarted the weather for the evening!

Chloey : I am SO proud of you and not just of your swimming record. The positive attitude you displayed as the weather made our plans go haywire shows me that you can adapt as challenges come your way. That skill set is invaluable as you get older and move into adulthood. I’m so thankful for you, your outfit choices and the location scouting you did so that we could beat the raindrops.

You are amazing!! All the best on this senior year,

Carrie
