Class of 2021 : Adam

This summer season of shooting has pushed me in ways beyond just functioning in a pandemic. While we’ve photographed in similar or locations I’ve used before, I’ve challenged myself to photograph them in new ways and from new angles. So, when Adam requested something downtown (I can do that!), architectural (I can do that!), and “tech-y” (hmmm……) a quick google search showed that the back of the Des Moines Historical building would be the right fit. I scoped it out a week ahead of time and walked around the building to find that this location is really versatile and with the sun rising over the capitol, shining on the window feature, the typically dark and heavy windows even had some glow during our time there! Win-win!

Generally speaking, senior sessions with young men are “easier”, but in a pandemic, we’ve had to schedule around hair cuts more than ever before. I’ve asked each of them, “Is this your Corona-Cut?” or “Is this your Corona-Style?” Guys really do care about their hair just as much as the ladies and I love Adam’s curly Corona-Style:

Did I mention that on most sessions we’ve done something I’ve NEVER done before? Let’s use Adam’s love of Cheez-its props for another #ckphoto first! And fun hats-must have fun hats! #seniorguysstyle

We headed to one of Adam’s favorite trails for cross country training to highlight that portion of his high school experience:

Note to self: gravel roads are INCREDIBLE natural reflectors!

Adam-Thank you so much for having me out & for challenging me with new locations, hats & props. You are truly one-of-a-kind and I’m so grateful I’ve had the opportunity to teach you, “shoot” you, and have your sweet family in my life. All the best in your senior year and pop by my classroom to keep me posted on your plans!

All the best,

Carrie
