Shooting More of What You Want : Graduation!
I have wanted to photograph more seniors with their caps & gowns in their graduation season (April-May) and it seems the last several years that the school year is chugging out of the station so fast, our schedules don’t allow for it very often. So, I have been bringing a grad cap with a tassel to each of my Norwalk sessions and asked any of my clients not from Norwalk if they have access to a cap from a friend who’s already graduated. Not every senior was interested in these kinds of photos or they may not have had access to a cap from their non-Norwalk high school, which is totally fine!
The first examples I have to show you are from Morgan’s session who is living in Michigan and used her older sister’s cap & stole. There’s something that clicks in these seniors’ minds as they work to fit the cap on their head. Each and every one of them took a deep breath as the reality of what’s to come set in a bit. Even their parents had to let the moment soak in too. I tried to bring a little levity once the moment had passed to say, “You are now ahead of your peers: you know how to put one of these things on!” :)
Can you imagine the thoughts going through their heads as they first put this weird-shaped hat on?!
I also loved hiding a little nod to their graduation year where we could make one work. See how many 2025’s you can find with Braelyn’s photos!
Gabi is one that is very quiet about the photographic work that she creates and is in, but I do have her permission to share these - they’re just THAT good and make us THAT happy.
John’s session was such a sweet morning time together where the storm clouds parted and gave us gorgeous views. At the end of his session, with his arms outstretched, it was like John was embracing his senior year and celebrating all that it will be.
Carolina’s face when she first got the cap on was so precious, as if to say, “Oh yeah, Mom, this is really happening!”
To any of my seniors - if you want to gather friends in the spring when your caps & gowns arrive, just let me know and we’ll make scheduling work!
Cheering for you every step of the way,
Carrie
