Daniel : A Downtown Des Moines Senior Session - Class of 2024

Daniel is a gem! His session was just the right balance of trusting me to do my thing while also bringing his own spin to it. I’m so thankful when a client gives me their preferences and brings props they want to feature. Daniel’s mom lined up our first location to give us a great view of downtown from the top of an apartment building - I am always up for shooting in new locations and Daniel gave me more than a few new ones!

Once we’d exhausted all the options on the rooftop, we headed down Court Ave and brought out the props of athletics he does outside of school - namely, his long board and skis.

When we were on the rooftop, we noticed the green bridge near Principal Park and there’s a bit of a backstory to this spot for Daniel’s family, so we headed there for our last location. This won’t be the last you see of Daniel because, Lord willing, we’ll be able to gather a few more photos of him at his internship in a little bit as he seeks his pilot’s license! Talk about a bucket list item!!

While that last spot on the rocks of the river were pretty bright, the rocks also served as a natural reflector so Daniel’s face wasn’t as shaded as it normally would’ve been with his back to the sun (backlit). The sun has been a challenge for me all summer (go figure!), avoiding glare/flare, being kind to my clients with blue eyes etc, and this particular morning, we worked it to our advantage. Daniel and his blue eyes took it in stride, thankfully!

Daniel - thank you so much for having me out to make your senior photos with you! I’m excited at the prospect of being on the tarmac with you as you pursue flying. Excited to see you in the hot seat!

All the best on your senior year,

Carrie
