Hannah : Class of 2022

Where do I begin with this girl!? Hannah’s session was so eclectic but still reflected her and I am here for it! This session came in parts because we both had things happening that evening and it couldn’t have gone more smoothly. I was able to attend Lochlyn’s Open House and she was able to do a hair style change, while we were both able to eat dinner. Win-win!

We started at the Des Moines Capitol because of Hannah’s work in student leadership and her role as the Board of Education’s Student Representative. She works with the BOE to inform and advocate for student issues.

When she filled out the questionnaire I sent her, the dream job she described is enough tasks for about 10 people but includes being a visionary/founder/CEO for a massive innovative company whose “sole focus is empowering others to reimagine the world around them.” She wants “to help inspire kids, youth, adults, and all types of people to reimagine how the world could be and work to make that a reality.” She’s also realistic about what she’ll need to get there which might include “an interdisciplinary engineering program and some humanities program or mix of business, leadership, data analytics/science, computer science, and psychology together.” * insert wide eyes of disbelief here *

After our break together, we met up near the Science Center and found a few spots that worked beautifully with Hannah’s favorite pants. This young lady is involved in so much at school that there was no way we could incorporate all of it: student leadership, Robotics, swimming, track, 4-H, and more. We honed in on her love of the water because she could not live without “ideas & water” and she spends her time working at Easter Lake Boat Rental where the water calms her and keeps her at peace when her activities are swirling. (side note, she didn’t want me to edit her swim’s Speedo tan line because she’s earned every pigment!)

We thought we were all done, but we kept chasing the light and we had just a few more minutes to go so we snuck in a few with the moon!

Hannah-I’m so glad we were able to nail down our schedules to make this evening work! I am eager to see where you land and the impact you have on those around you. I’m forever proud of you and please keep me posted on all your adventures.

Someday, you will be a visionary that other young women look up to.

All the best,

Carrie
