Baby Shane : 3 weeks old

Baby Shane : 3 weeks old

This was a shoot two weeks in the making. Baby Shane was found to have an infection shortly after birth that required a 14 day stint of antibiotics and a watchful eye in the hospital for that length of time as well. So, going into this newborn shoot, I knew we’d be more the lifestyle approach than the curl-up-in-all-sorts-of-poses shoot. And really, that is ok with me!

We started with Ben and his TWO kids first then gave Big Sis a breather to space out when her smiling duties would be. :)

We let Big Sis Ellie have a snack break with Ben while we did some of just Mama Jess & Shane-these might be my favorite of the whole afternoon-before finishing on the front step as a family of FOUR:

Jess + Ben: From your engagement photos, to your wedding day, from Ellie’s arrival to Shane’s, it’s been an honor to watch the story of your family unfold and I’m so thankful that you’ve chosen me to capture it all! It was such a relief to find out that Shane’s infection didn’t have long lasting effects and that, while delayed a bit and super stressful, he’s now home and healthy and utterly perfect. I can’t wait to see how Ellie dotes on “her baby” as the years progress!

Blessings & all the sleep you can manage,

Carrie

Trevor + Amanda : Discharge Day Photos

Wow, it’s been awhile since I’ve been in a delivery room at a hospital! Aside from delivering Lochlyn, I last photographed Amanda’s second child, Blaine a month before Loch’s arrival. Now, Amanda + Trevor have three boys and I was in awe as a fly on the wall of their room with the chaos of Blaine & Graham wrestling Trevor, how calm Amanda was. In rapid succession, doctor and nurse and lactation consultant came in throughout my hour there and checked in on Baby Vaughn, Amanda, any meds that needed to be given, and started the Discharge Day routine. Throughout it all, Amanda stayed focused, unshaken and was clear-headed. If she weren’t holding Vaughn, you wouldn’t know she’d just given birth, let alone to a 9lb baby!!

Enough of my jabbering, let’s get to the cuteness:

Baby Vaughn was most comfortable either in the blanket that his big brothers picked out for him or with his Mama, so we were pretty short and sweet on the naked (with a diaper) portion of his shoot. He’s also 9lbs and wanted nothing to do with curling up any more! ;)

Amanda: I am so proud of you and impressed by you! Epidural or not, I loved seeing your confidence take flight with Vaughn’s arrival and your mother-instinct kick in full throttle. As you’re in the midst of putting your house on the market and moving (eeek!), know that you always have our house to crash for a showing or to escape the crazy wrestlers (Trevor included) ;)

All the best!
Carrie

Kaydee + Cory : Parents!!

It's still surreal to me that this session happened, not just that it happened in my office, but that KayDee & Cory are parents! This little full-term nugget took 24 hours to enter the world, struggled a smidge in the NICU, but fought hard and came home with rousing success. While it delayed our newborn session by a few days, KayDee & Cory are rocking the Parent label and Joshua slept through our entire time together. I'm loving a more laid-back approach to newborn sessions and capturing his little details, authentic snuggles with Mom & Dad and even a few smiles right out of the gate!

Enjoy!

We brought KayDee in for a few and I think she'd be this natural of a Mama even if she hadn't had several nieces and nephews prior to having her own child. Totally comfortable in her own skin and completely soaking in this newborn season of life.

Joshua just kept on snoozin', so we brought Cory in for full family and then got several of just the men:

It was by this time that Joshua let us know it was time to eat, so we called it a wrap and KayDee used our nursery room (Lochlyn's bedroom) before then skirting out to celebrate a dear friend's Bachelorette Party/Day! Like I said, they're rockin' this Parenting Label and it's such a gift to watch my bridal couples become parents!

KayDee & Cory: Thank you so much for allowing me the joy of documenting this stage of your lives! Joshua is precious indeed and I know he's so blessed to have you as parents. I hope you're getting more sleep and that recovery continues to go smoothly!

Blessings,
Carrie

Leah + Brian

When Colt came along, I had the pleasure of documenting dear Brian and Leah at their maternity session and Colt's newborn. When Hudson came along, I unfortunately had the flu and had to pass them to a great friend of mine. Now, here comes Grayson and I'm redeemed! ;) Leah & Brian were their calm, loving, gracious selves and were so well prepared for this session-complete with marshmallows for the boys if they smiled! Love it! And I love what we captured on this chilly morning:

The boys were on a roll, so we kept going with it and knocked out the whole family too. Then, the boys could go play while we focused on just Leah & Grayson:

Brian revisited us once the boys were settled into their play and I love what we captured!

Their living room window light is wonderful in the morning hours and Grayson was intrigued by the brightness:

Leah & Brian (& boys!): Thank you so much for having me out! I love capturing your family and can't believe there are now FIVE of you!!! Enjoy these images as I'm sure Grayson has already changed so much!

Hope you're sleeping a little bit more!

2017 Favorites

What a year! We pushed the limits of light: in-house light, bright light without shade, ice hockey rink light, auditorium and jazz club light with off-camera flash, bouncing light off reflectors, the list goes on and on... We challenged locations too: bedrooms, living rooms, studios, jazz clubs, inside the capitol, in water, in a RIVER. We celebrated new jobs, new babies, new homes, answers to health issues and healthy marriages.

These sessions represent victories in getting a stubborn child to smile (finally!), a child relaxing on her Mama's shoulder for comfort after a tough day, scheduling snafus, forgetting of camera gear to a session (that was me! ugh), getting off-camera flash to work, getting huge props borrowed and lined up for a session, getting a newborn to lay "just so" for the right shot, working the sunlight so that it was "just right". Challenges answered by victories that made me a better photographer, businesswoman and person.

I truly have the best clients on earth and I'm so thankful for the year that 2017 was for my business! This one's for you!!
