If I were to link all the photo sessions we’ve done together with this family, we’d be here all morning! Suffice it to say, I have had the joy of photographing Nick + Elaine since their oldest was able to fit inside a very small Christmas present box under the tree and he’s now entering 6th grade! One of my clients has asked me this summer if I’ve run out of places to shoot sessions and I’m so thankful that I haven’t! Thank you, Elaine for offering a new twist on Easter Lake Park-our family even used the bike trail the next day and LOVED it. There, the secret is out. Hopefully, this park doesn’t become the next Waterworks that is crowded with photographers all the time! In the meantime, enjoy these photos from our time together:

The 6th grader may not want to hold hands anymore, but Brecker (the 2nd grader) will still cuddle up to mom or dad!

Ever since they’ve been able to climb, our sessions have involved a “tree photo” of some kind. This is a new twist on that idea this year too:

Nick + Elaine: Thank you so much for all the prep work you do for these sessions to be a success. From clothing choices to location scouting and arriving on time. I’m so thankful for your family and that I get to work alongside two amazing educators to boot! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Blessings,

Carrie

Oh these girls are so sweet! Full of energy, loving and at, times, lending a hand to a sister, they are a joy to photograph. Every time I see this family, I’m in awe of how it’s so abundantly clear that their Mama, Leah, was meant to be a Mommy. Her patience, tenderness and grace comes in waves towards them and I find myself slightly jealous of her deep well of these attributes that Motherhood demands! Neil is such a hands-on Dad and helps in every way possible for the success of our time together. I think we both worked up a sweat getting this one completed!

I can only imagine the camaraderie these girls will have as they get older! (and potentially, what kind of mischief they might get in now!) ;) I include some of their bloopers because they’re just too real-life to pass by!

To keep the energy going even while the sun was starting to scorch, we went on a “Treasure Hunt”to walk the bike trail a little ways for some shade options…Sedelle loved the idea and fully embraced the adventure, but I love the black & white image below possibly the most of this entire session, because it shows Motherhood to me: Dad running with the older kiddos and Mama pulling up the rear with a baby in tow, making sure everything is caught up in her net while we go for safe-keeping.

That last image above? Sedelle is telling Daddy her secret that photos are almost over! (Trick #386: to get a child on your side during a family photo session, tell them you have a secret or surprise just for them when the session is over and it’s like you have an instant bond for life!)

Leah & Neil: Thank you so much for an amazing morning! Your girls are such a joy and I love catching up and visiting with the both of you in the midst of the crazy. I’m so thankful for your support of this business of mine-you are the best!

Blessings,
Carrie

Jess + Ben’s wedding day was a beautiful celebration of love and family, so it only seems fitting that their family sessions with sweet Ellie & Baby Boy on the way would be too. We met downtown and Ellie faced (and conquered!) a nervousness around water in addition to flashing smiles my way. I’d call that a successful morning!

A quick outfit change and Ellie continued to rock the smiles and shower her gorgeous Mama with love (and make her laugh):

The sun was peeking over the downtown skyline, but we managed a few quick ones before it got too hot and it gave Ellie even more reason to dip her chunky toes in the cool water!

Ben + Jess: You guys are awesome! I’m so thankful that I get to watch your family grow and am super excited to meet the Little Mister next month!! All the best on delivery, recovery and transitioning to a family of FOUR!

Blessings,
Carrie

I don’t think Jen + Adam had any idea what Life would throw them on their wedding day. I had the privilege of being there as an associate photographer on their ridiculously hot day. So hot, in fact, I had to go home prior to the reception due to heat stroke! On their wedding day blog post, I talked about their ability to be flexible in the face of adversity with the weather and their outdoor wedding venue. I’m not sure there’s a proper word in the dictionary for the kind of flexibility in adversity that Jen + Adam walked through a short few years ago.

You’ll notice there’s a little bear in most of their family photos. Jen was pregnant with their third child and went in for their 20 week ultrasound when the lab tech had to bring the doctor in. Which, for most who have been in this situation before know, that’s not a good thing. The doctor informed Jen & Adam that their baby would not survive outside of the womb because of defects with her kidneys and urinary tract: Potter’s Syndrome. They named their baby girl, Sawyer and went to Build-A-Bear to commemorate her with the recording of Sawyer’s heartbeat in hand. Build-A-Bear implanted the heartbeat recording into Sawyer-Bear and will replace any battery whenever necessary. Thankfully, Jen & Adam were able to have a fourth, perfectly healthy daughter after Sawyer, but her imprint will always be with their family and in these photos with the matching dress that Jen made for her. (I’ll pause here with the story while you go grab some kleenex…)

Having narrowly missed the rain drops (you can kind of see them falling in the photos below), the clouds parted like a sweet miracle and we just let the girls run and get the wiggles out for a bit:

Jen + Adam: It is an incredible honor to help document your family at this stage of your lives. I am so pleased the rain held off, the girls did phenomenally well and I’m thankful for the opportunity to cross paths again. Thank you for having me and I wish you the best of summers and transition to the school year-no matter what the Lord has in store for your career path!

Blessings,

Carrie

This is a session at least two years in the waiting! Mel gifted her parents a family session not knowing that their worlds would be topsy turvy in the best of ways with two weddings and they’d be getting family photos on those special days. Fast forward to this particular morning and with a baby on the way (congrats Mel!) it was time to get it done!

Mel, Deb et al: Thank you so much for having me and waiting such a long time for it to all come together! I wish you the best of luck on the addition to your family and hope everything goes swimmingly well!

Blessings,

Carrie
